British authorities have filed new charges of rape and sexual assault against comedian Russell Brand, expanding the legal case that already involves multiple allegations. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed that the additional charges relate to two more women, bringing the total number of complainants to six.
The new allegations, dating back to 2009, follow an extensive investigation conducted by the Metropolitan Police. Brand, now 50 years old, was previously charged with offenses allegedly committed between 1999 and 2005. These earlier charges include two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault. The alleged crimes took place in various locations, including the English seaside town of Bournemouth and London.
Lionel Idan, chief Crown prosecutor for the CPS, said prosecutors had carefully reviewed evidence before deciding to bring the new charges. He highlighted that the decision was made in the public interest, reflecting a commitment to pursue justice for the alleged victims. Idan also reminded the public that criminal proceedings are ongoing and that Brand is entitled to a fair trial under the law.
Russell Brand is scheduled to appear in Westminster Magistrates’ Court on January 20, 2026, to face the newly filed charges. Meanwhile, the trial related to the earlier allegations has been set to begin on June 3, 2026, with court proceedings expected to last between four and five weeks.
Brand has consistently denied all accusations. During previous court appearances, he pleaded not guilty to the charges of rape, sexual assault, and indecent assault. He has publicly stated that he has never engaged in non-consensual activity and maintains his innocence.
In recent years, Brand has largely stepped back from mainstream media and Hollywood. Instead, he has cultivated a significant online presence by creating videos that mix topics such as wellness, spirituality, religion, and various conspiracy theories. This shift has marked a clear departure from his earlier career as a mainstream comedian and actor.
When the initial charges were announced earlier this year, Brand responded with a video message addressing his followers. In it, he described himself as a former drug and sex addict who has since embraced a spiritual path, insisting that despite past mistakes, he has never been a rapist. Brand asked the public to look beyond the accusations and see his true character.
As the legal process continues, the focus will remain on the court's examination of evidence and testimony from all parties involved. The upcoming hearings and trial will be closely watched, given Brand’s high profile and the serious nature of the allegations.
