RTA Enhances Mobility in Al Quoz Creative Hub

Post by : Bianca Hayes

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully completed a series of transformative infrastructure projects in Al Quoz Creative Zone, positioning it as one of the premier integrated creative districts globally.

These initiatives, part of a broader master plan, focus on boosting connectivity and fostering urban mobility while aligning with Dubai's commitment to creating pedestrian-friendly public spaces. Al Quoz Creative Zone aims to serve as a thriving hub for artists, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders in the creative economy, nurturing all facets of the creative process—from ideation and development to exhibition and marketing.

Additionally, the district will feature affordable live-work options, enhanced public spaces, and venues designed for cultural and artistic engagements, solidifying its role as a year-round cultural destination.

New Bridge, Mobility Hubs, and Active Transit Routes

A standout achievement includes a newly constructed pedestrian and cycling bridge over Al Manara Street. This bridge promotes safety and smooth movement for non-motorized transit while keeping in harmony with the area's architectural essence.

Measuring 45 meters in length, 5.5 meters in width, and a height of 6 meters, the bridge features two accessible ramps, each extending 210 meters for ease of use.

Moreover, three mobility hubs have been added, forming an interconnected network of pedestrian, cycling, and individual mobility routes across four kilometers, linking the Al Quoz Creative Zone directly to Onpassive Metro Station and Al Quoz Bus Station, facilitating seamless transport for all users.

Super Blocks Initiative to Transform Public Spaces

The RTA has also announced the forthcoming Super Blocks project, aimed at further enhancing pedestrian areas throughout Al Quoz Creative Zone as part of Dubai’s broader ambition to expand walkable city infrastructure.

By temporarily closing select streets for art installations and cultural events, this initiative is set to foster vibrant urban spaces for festivals, starting with the Al Quoz Arts Festival on January 24 and 25, coordinated by Alserkal Avenue and Dubai Culture.

The Super Blocks project supports initiatives like the Year of the Family, Dubai Social Agenda 33, and the Dubai Urban Plan 2040, enhancing community ties and enriching the urban lifestyle while promoting environmentally-friendly commuting.

RTA: Crafting an Integrated Transportation Framework

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the RTA's Executive Board, highlighted that these projects signify the authority’s dedication to establishing a cohesive transport system that minimizes reliance on private vehicles and improves urban mobility.

He noted that improved links between the Al Quoz Creative Zone and major public transport hubs, combined with a comprehensive walkable and bicycle-friendly environment, exemplify RTA’s commitment to user-centered mobility solutions.

The Al Manara Street bridge, he added, not only enhances safety and flow but also underscores the priority given to sustainable transport options. The interconnected pathways and activity hubs foster an accessible environment conducive to pedestrian movement and community engagement.

Dubai Culture: Promoting a Creative Economy

According to Her Excellency Hala Badri, Director General of Dubai Culture, the Al Quoz Creative Zone exemplifies Dubai's vision to leverage culture as a vital driver of economic development, solidifying its stature as a global talent and creativity nexus.

She emphasized that the zone offers a holistic ecosystem for creatives and entrepreneurs, with ongoing transport advancements set to bolster its appeal and accessibility.

Dubai Culture will continue its efforts in programming the area with initiatives that spotlight innovation and opportunities within the creative sector.

A District Poised for Growth

As per the master plan, Al Quoz Creative Zone is slated for substantial expansion, with projections indicating a rise in the creative community from 900 to 20,000, along with housing for 8,000 residents and an influx of about 33,000 daily visitors.

Plans include a tenfold increase in creative workspaces, triple the leisure facilities, and a 30% growth in available commercial areas. Following its development, the Al Quoz Creative Zone is anticipated to rank among the world’s largest congregations of creative talent.

Affordable Housing and Unique Urban Identity

A newly instituted planning code aims to cultivate integrated live-work communities, introducing 2,900 affordable residences for creatives. This design prioritizes public areas suitable for exhibitions, performances, and a variety of cultural activities.

Sidewalks will be redesigned into shaded walkways, and communal plazas will foster social engagements and artistic showcases. The neighborhood will also feature public art installations and retain its industrial vibe by repurposing old warehouses for creative endeavors.

With the new transportation frameworks in place, Al Quoz Creative Zone stands ready to evolve into Dubai's most interconnected, pedestrian-friendly, and culturally rich district, emerging as a leading global center for the creative economy.
