The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has unveiled a proactive inspection initiative aimed at assessing the readiness of air-conditioned bus shelters and waiting areas before the scorching days of summer 2026.

This extensive network includes 895 air-conditioned bus shelters situated across 621 diverse locations throughout Dubai. The primary goal of this campaign is to guarantee that all shelters operate efficiently, ensuring a pleasant experience for public transport users during peak heat.

According to Abdulrahman Al Janahi, the Director of Buildings & Facilities at RTA, the organization is devoted to maintaining the operational readiness of public transport-related amenities. He indicated that inspections and preventative measures will confirm these shelters are ready for the upcoming summer season.

He elaborated that RTA conducts regular inspections as part of their operational strategy. Field monitoring teams are present 24/7, identifying any technical malfunctions and implementing corrective measures as required. This campaign also entails enhancements to boost the shelters' performance and overall efficacy.

Additionally, the RTA has launched public awareness programs via social media and has displayed informative posters at various bus shelters. These initiatives aim to encourage commuters to uphold cleanliness and safeguard public amenities.

Moreover, RTA has set up official channels for users to provide feedback or report issues regarding bus shelters. This service is conveniently accessible through the “Madinati” feature on the RTA mobile app, where all reports are dealt with by specialized teams to ensure prompt responses and high levels of customer satisfaction.

The air-conditioned bus shelters boast eco-friendly designs capable of enduring harsh weather conditions, including intense heat and wind. Featuring modern aesthetics and ample advertising areas, they play a significant role in Dubai’s sustainable urban framework.

These shelters adhere to the Dubai Universal Design Code, guaranteeing accessibility for Persons of Determination. Facilities like wheelchair spaces and digital screens providing real-time bus updates are included.

Through this initiative, RTA aims to elevate public transport services, ensuring maximum comfort, safety, and efficiency for all commuters within Dubai.
