In a significant leap towards improving healthcare in Southern Thailand, the Ministry of Public Health has marked the successful recovery and expansion of Hat Yai Hospital, which had faced severe damage from floods in 2025. The facility has quickly resumed full medical services and is set to evolve into a key health center in the region.

Public Health Minister Pattana Promphat conducted a site inspection at Hat Yai Hospital, alongside top health officials, to monitor recovery efforts and assess flood preparedness strategies. The hospital's restoration has surpassed expectations, progressing about 20 percent quicker than planned thanks to effective reconstruction efforts and robust government backing.

A notable royal grant of 100 million baht has significantly contributed to the hospital’s redevelopment, aiding renovations in vital infrastructure such as the emergency department and enhancing backup systems. This initiative is expected to conclude by September 2026, positioning the hospital for better service delivery.

The government is also undertaking extensive infrastructure improvements to bolster the hospital’s defenses against future flooding events, with approximately 80 percent of restoration already completed. The installation of a dedicated emergency power line and a substantial generator will ensure ongoing operations during crises.

Enhancements in water supply and medical support systems include the construction of ten new water pump facilities and the addition of a reverse osmosis unit, which generates 2,000 liters of clean water per hour. The hospital has upgraded its oxygen storage and repositioned backup gas systems to enhance safety during emergencies.

Simultaneously, Hat Yai Hospital is broadening its array of advanced medical services with the establishment of seven centers of excellence in various fields, including oncology, cardiology, and transplantation. State-of-the-art medical technologies are being integrated to elevate the standards of care.

As part of its forward-looking strategy, the government is advancing the "Hat Yai Hospital 2" project on a 130-rai plot in Ban Phru Subdistrict, aimed at addressing the healthcare demands in Southern Thailand while fostering medical research and innovations. This expansion is expected to position Hat Yai as a premier regional healthcare hub in the years ahead.
