Ras Al Khaimah's Economic Growth: A Focus on Exports and Tourism

Post by : Mara Collins

Ras Al Khaimah is making significant strides in developing a diverse and sustainable economy, concentrating on enhancing production, exports, logistics, tourism, and manufacturing. This initiative supports the UAE’s agenda to lessen oil dependency and is in line with the vision for 2031. Recent statistics indicate that this strategic direction is yielding fruitful outcomes in various essential sectors.

As per the Ras Al Khaimah Chamber of Commerce and Industry's reports, the first three quarters of 2025 saw a remarkable increase in exports from the emirate, reaching approximately AED 7.6 billion in goods by chamber affiliates. The third quarter marked a peak in activity, with over 9,400 certificates of origin issued, reflecting stable output and growing global interest in products from Ras Al Khaimah.

Saudi Arabia led as the primary export destination, with Oman and Kuwait following close behind. Iraq ranked fourth in export value, and key markets also included Qatar, Bahrain, and Egypt. This diverse market distribution underscores the emirate’s evolving trade collaborations, minimizing reliance on any single market or region.

Officials noted that investments in infrastructure, skilled human resources, and adaptable regulations have been vital in attracting foreign capital and establishing a robust industrial framework. Free zones, especially RAKEZ, have significantly contributed by facilitating manufacturing, advanced tech, and renewable energy initiatives. Additionally, exports from these zones to the local UAE market have seen substantial growth.

Concurrently, tourism has emerged as a significant pillar for economic development. In 2024, Ras Al Khaimah hosted over 1.28 million hotel guests, reflecting consistent annual growth. The emirate is gearing up for a major hotel expansion, with plans for numerous new luxury accommodations.

Ras Al Khaimah aspires to welcome 3.5 million visitors annually by 2030. Noteworthy real estate and hospitality ventures, largely centered around Al Marjan Island and Jebel Jais, are expected to bolster this target and enhance the emirate’s status as a premier business and tourism destination in the region.
