A tragic incident unfolded last week when Twinkle Randhawa, a 24-year-old from Punjab, was discovered dead in Italy under suspicious circumstances. His heartbroken family is now calling for an official investigation and assistance from the Indian authorities to repatriate his body for his final rites.

Twinkle had relocated to Italy four months earlier, pursuing dreams of a better life. His parents, who are financially struggling, had taken a loan to facilitate his move. Before Italy, Twinkle spent a year in Dubai. The family is devastated as they grapple with the ambiguous details surrounding his untimely death.

Relatives reported that after several days without communication, they tried contacting Twinkle’s associates in Italy. However, these individuals provided inconsistent and perplexing explanations about his situation. At times, they mentioned he hadn't woken up, while other times they claimed he was taken by police, leaving the family without clear answers.

Sarban Singh, a relative, expressed concern, stating, “Every time we inquired about Twinkle, his companions offered various excuses. The family is in desperate financial conditions; his father drives a taxi to make ends meet.”

Jagir Singh, Twinkle’s father, who drives in Punjab, mentioned their last conversation just two days ago when Twinkle seemed well. “During our last talk, he sounded fine, but after that, we lost contact completely,” he recounted.

Jagir explained that they were informed by Twinkle’s friends that he collapsed in a park and was given lemonade before being taken away by police since they were not with him. Nonetheless, the family still remains in the dark about the exact circumstances leading to his death.

Baljeet Kaur, Twinkle’s mother, recalled that during their last call two days prior, he seemed in good spirits. The next day, after failing to reach him, a flatmate reported that Twinkle went out with some friends, possibly on a job hunt. Later, she was told he fainted and may have suffered a heart attack, but the details were unclear.

Twinkle had aspirations of moving his mother to Italy once he settled down, looking forward to a reunion in two years. His mother expressed her devastation, saying, “He was my youngest and most cherished son. He always reassured me, ‘Mom, once I establish myself, I’ll bring you here.’ I never thought this would happen. I urge our government to ensure my son's body is returned so we can perform his last rites in Punjab.”

The family's anguish underscores the urgent need for transparency and assistance. They implore the Indian government to intervene quickly and facilitate the return of Twinkle’s body for cremation in accordance with Punjabi traditions.
