Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on an official trip to the United Arab Emirates this Friday, aimed at bolstering the enduring partnership between India and the UAE. This visit will include critical discussions with UAE leadership before Mr. Modi proceeds on a six-day European journey.
As outlined by India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Mr. Modi will later visit the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Italy during his European leg.
The relationship between India and the UAE is founded on a solid diplomatic, economic, and cultural framework established over many years. With nearly four million Indians residing in the UAE, they represent the largest expatriate population in the nation. Over time, both countries have concentrated on enhancing collaboration in trade, investment, energy, technology, and infrastructure.
In 2022, the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) was signed, marking the UAE's inaugural trade agreement of this kind. This pact has since elevated bilateral trade beyond $85 billion. Currently, India ranks as the UAE's top trading partner, whilst the UAE is India's third-largest trading partner.
Mr. Modi's last visit to the UAE took place in 2024 over a span of two days, during which he addressed approximately 40,000 members of the Indian community at Zayed Sports City Stadium. He also participated in the World Governments Summit in Dubai and inaugurated the first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi during that trip.
Earlier this year, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan traveled to New Delhi for discussions with Mr. Modi, focusing on ways to enhance collaboration across sectors such as artificial intelligence, technology, the economy, and food security.
The two leaders also oversaw the exchange of agreements and letters of intent to foster bilateral cooperation and support forthcoming development initiatives between their nations.
In the aftermath of their meeting, Sheikh Mohamed emphasized that India and the UAE would persist in their joint efforts to advance sustainable development, stimulate economic growth, and solidify strategic partnerships.
