Pedestrian Killed After Train Strike In Richmond Hill

Police in York Region are investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a train in Richmond Hill on the evening of April 10, 2026.

According to authorities, the incident occurred shortly after 6:30 p.m. near the Elgin Mills crossing, located east of Yonge Street and just north of the Richmond Hill GO station. Emergency services responded to the scene after reports that a person had been hit by a train.

Officials confirmed that the pedestrian died as a result of the collision. However, police have not yet released further details about the identity of the victim or the circumstances leading up to the incident. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine what happened.

The incident also caused disruptions to public transportation services. GO Transit reported that the last two northbound trains on the Richmond Hill line were cancelled following the incident. Passengers were advised to use shuttle bus services to continue their journey to Gormley and Bloomington GO stations.

Police have asked the public to avoid the area while the investigation continues. Additional updates are expected as more information becomes available.
