Chaos Erupts as Fire Engulfs Karachi Mall

Post by : Mina Carter

A fire that began as a minor incident quickly escalated into a frightening ordeal for shoppers within a Karachi mall.

Muhammad Imran, an employee at the mall, initially felt unconcerned, believing it was just another small flame that would be contained as before. However, this time, the fire spread with alarming speed.

Within moments, dense black smoke surged through the mall's air ducts, turning breathable air into a struggle. People began to cough, shout, and scatter in a panic.

Before long, the lights went out, plunging the mall into utter darkness. Shoppers tried to illuminate their surroundings with mobile phone flashlights, yet the thick smoke rendered any light almost pointless.

“You couldn’t see your own hands,” said Imran. “You couldn’t even see the person standing next to you.”

Fear swept through the crowd as individuals endeavored to find exits, with many becoming disoriented. Some collided with walls, while others froze in uncertainty.

For Imran, who suffers from diabetes and has undergone heart surgery, movement was difficult. He took just a few steps before fatigue set in, the smoke weighing heavily on his chest and legs.

“It felt like the end of the world,” he whispered.

Around him, cries for help mingled with the chaos, as loved ones shouted out for one another. The smoke thickened by the second, saturating the atmosphere with dread.

Emergency teams eventually arrived, aiding in the evacuation of those trapped. Many were taken to hospitals due to smoke inhalation, with some fortunate to survive the ordeal.

Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the fire's origin and the rapid smoke spread, raising critical questions about safety protocols and exit access within the mall.

For those who lived through the incident, the haunting memories remain. What began as a routine shopping day became a battle for survival.
