Post by : Bianca Hayes

The Hafeet Rail project, a collaborative effort involving Etihad Rail, Oman Rail, and Mubadala Investment Company, has now surpassed the 40% completion mark for the railway connection between Oman and the UAE. This infrastructure initiative stands out as one of the key transport developments in the region.

Spanning 238 kilometres, the railway aims to provide a swift and efficient transport network that will enhance trade dynamics, bolstering supply chains and fostering economic prosperity between Oman and the UAE.

Construction is advancing rapidly in significant areas, including the Al Ain Region, Al Buraimi, Sohar, and Wadi Al Jizzi. The project interface with cities, industrial zones, mountainous terrains, and valleys necessitates sophisticated engineering tasks, such as constructing tunnels, bridges, and flood mitigation systems.

So far, over 27 million cubic metres of earthwork have been successfully completed. The concrete work has surpassed 100,000 cubic metres, indicating robust progress in the major construction efforts. Approximately 80 structures are currently under development, alongside 900 concrete piles and 130 box culverts.

Abdulrahman Al Hatmi, CEO of Asyad Group, noted that the project is advancing swiftly, showcasing the strong collaboration among all stakeholders. He emphasized that this development underscores Oman’s railway vision and highlights local talent's contributions to the project.

Ahmed AlMusawa AlHashemi, CEO of Hafeet Rail, remarked on the completion milestone, affirming that the focus is on sustaining momentum while prioritizing safety and quality. To date, the project has accumulated 10 million safe work hours without any significant injuries.

State-of-the-art railway technologies, including advanced signalling and communications systems, are being utilized to align with global standards. These enhancements will elevate efficiency, boost capacity, and ensure seamless operations across the two nations.

Additionally, the project will pave the way for forthcoming passenger train services, facilitating easier travel for tourists and business professionals alike. It aligns closely with strategic national objectives such as Oman Vision 2040 and development goals of the UAE.

In summary, the Oman-UAE rail initiative is set to drive economic advancement, curtail reliance on road transport, minimize emissions, and fortify regional connectivity, embodying a collective ambition for a more sustainable and interconnected future between both nations.
