The Hafeet Rail initiative, a collaboration among Etihad Rail, Oman Rail, and Mubadala Investment Company, has reached the notable milestone of 40% completion in constructing the vital railway connecting Oman and the UAE. This ambitious endeavor is recognized as one of the key infrastructure projects in the region.
Spanning 238 kilometers, the railway aims to establish a swift and efficient transportation network. It is set to elevate trade dynamics, fortify supply chains, and foster economic collaboration between Oman and the UAE.
Construction activities are advancing rapidly at several key sites, particularly in the Al Ain Region, Al Buraimi, Sohar, and Wadi Al Jizzi. The railway traverses diverse terrains, including urban centers, industrial zones, mountains, and valleys, necessitating complex engineering solutions like tunnels, bridges, and flood defenses.
Already, over 27 million cubic meters of earthworks have been completed, with concrete work surpassing 100,000 cubic meters. About 80 separate structures are currently under construction, alongside 900 concrete piles and 130 box culverts.
Abdulrahman Al Hatmi, CEO of Asyad Group, praised the project's momentum, emphasizing the dedication of all stakeholders. He noted that this development aligns with Oman’s broader railway vision and showcases the capabilities of local talent in executing such a significant project.
Ahmed AlMusawa AlHashemi, CEO of Hafeet Rail, remarked that the 40% completion rate reflects determined progress. He reaffirmed the commitment to maintaining efficient work pace while ensuring safety and delivering superior outcomes, as evidenced by the achievement of 10 million safe work hours without major injuries.
The railway will employ advanced systems for signaling and communication that conform to international standards. These technologies will enhance operational efficiency and capacity while ensuring seamless connectivity between the two nations.
Additionally, the project will lay the groundwork for future passenger train services, simplifying travel options for both tourists and business professionals. It aligns with the national objectives such as Oman Vision 2040 and the UAE’s progressive plans.
In conclusion, the Oman-UAE rail project embodies a vision for economic advancement, reduces reliance on road transport, curtails emissions, and strengthens regional interconnectedness. It is a beacon of the shared future between these two nations.
