North Carolina Teen Detained for New Year’s ISIS Attack Scheme

An 18-year-old from North Carolina, identified as Christian Sturdivant, has been arrested for conspiring to carry out a mass attack on New Year's Eve to support the Islamic State (ISIS). A search of his residence revealed hammers, knives, and a detailed written plan for the attack.

Sturdivant aimed to strike at a grocery store and a Burger King, targeting civilians. The FBI had monitored his activities since 2022 and thwarted the attack after he believed he was in communication with ISIS members, but was actually talking to undercover law enforcement agents.

In mid-December, he pledged his allegiance to ISIS, detailing his intentions to "do jihad soon." Evidence collected during the December 29 search included a handwritten document labeled "The New Years Attack 2026," expressing his desire to stab as many civilians as possible, with specific targets including non-Muslims, LGBTQ individuals, and various religious groups.

Authorities also confiscated two hammers, two butcher knives, tactical gloves, and a vest hidden under his bed. Earlier, Sturdivant had sent a video to an undercover agent showcasing the weapons he planned to employ.

Charged with attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization, he has made his initial court appearance in Charlotte and is currently in federal custody. If found guilty, he could face up to 20 years behind bars.
