In a major advancement for the nation’s electronics manufacturing sector, the government on Monday approved 17 new projects under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS). This brings the total number of endorsed projects to 24, marking a significant effort to establish a competitive, self-reliant component ecosystem.
The initiatives include three units for camera module production, nine facilities for multilayer printed circuit boards (PCB), two for optical transceivers, and others for vital components utilized in mobile phones and electronic devices. Collectively, these projects are projected to draw in an investment of ₹7,172 crore and yield production valued at ₹65,111 crore in the coming years.
These manufacturing plants will be distributed across nine states and Union Territories, including Goa, Jammu & Kashmir, and Madhya Pradesh, contributing to a broader regional scope of India’s evolving component ecosystem. Officials noted that the scheme is strategically centered on critical components that can support the country’s long-term electronics growth, rather than diluting incentives across a wide range.
Among the firms receiving approval are notable local companies such as Aequs Consumer Products, Jabil Circuit India, Zetwerk subsidiaries Zetfab India and Zetchem Supply Chain Services, Uno Minda, and Syrma SGS unit Syrma Mobility. Many of these businesses plan to build high-tech facilities, which include the nation’s first optical transceiver manufacturing site, its first-ever 40-layer PCB factory, and its inaugural quartz crystal production unit — all crucial for next-gen electronics.
The government has continuously emphasized the importance of stronger domestic design, enhanced product quality, and more robust raw material supply chains. The ECMS initiative aligns with this objective, aiming to decrease import reliance and position India as a trustworthy global manufacturing ally.
As the electronics sector experiences rapid growth, these new projects represent a notable acceleration in India’s ambition to become a leading component-producing country, laying a strong foundation for everything from smartphones and household appliances to advanced digital technologies.
