Nepal Adopts New Two-Day Weekend to Tackle Fuel Crisis

Post by : Shakul

In a strategic move, the Nepalese government has implemented a two-day weekend for all government offices and educational institutions. This decision comes in light of fuel supply challenges stemming from global disruptions and was announced following a recent Cabinet meeting.

The new regulation reflects Nepal's response to widespread petroleum shortages, largely influenced by ongoing conflicts in West Asia. Officials emphasize this adjustment is crucial in reducing fuel consumption and tackling the economic challenges posed by this crisis.

Government spokesperson Sasmit Pokharel noted that there has also been a revision in working hours; offices will now function from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., adjusting from the previous schedule of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This change aims to sustain productivity despite fewer working days.

Furthermore, to address long-term fuel sustainability, the government is initiating efforts to transition to electric vehicles. Plans are underway to create legal frameworks that will facilitate the conversion of petrol and diesel vehicles to electric options, attempting to lessen Nepal's reliance on fossil fuels moving forward.
