Industrial Stocks Rally on Muscat Exchange Following Q1 Reports

Last week, the Muscat Stock Exchange's industrial sector showed remarkable resilience, propelled by a surge in share prices coinciding with the release of first-quarter financial results. The industrial index surged past the 10,100-point mark, achieving a weekly gain of 187 points.

In contrast, the overall market experienced a varied performance. The main index dropped by 73 points yet remained at its peak level in 18 years, closing at 8,162 points. Other indices presented mixed movements, with the financial sector adding 24 points and the Sharia index increasing by 16 points, while the services sector faced setbacks attributed to declines in significant telecom and energy shares.

Several industrial firms recorded impressive gains. Shares of Al Anwar Ceramic Tiles jumped by 19%, while Al Maha Ceramics and Oman Cables Industry saw increases near 6%. Additionally, Al Safa Foods reported an uptick of approximately 4.7%, showcasing robust investor interest in the industrial sphere.

Simultaneously, companies initiated the announcements of their preliminary Q1 financial results. Gulf Mushroom Production noted a 40% uptick in profits, whereas International Hotel Management experienced a 30% profit enhancement. On the other hand, the Pearl Real Estate Investment Fund saw a minor decrease in profits despite net asset growth.

Market activity, however, encountered a slight slowdown over the week. Total trading value fell by 21% to reach 309.1 million Omani riyals, with transaction numbers declining to 32,316. The market capitalization also decreased by 123 million Omani riyals, now amounting to around 37.97 billion riyals.

On the trading front, Bank Sohar International took the lead with trades totaling 76.5 million riyals, trailed by OQ Basic Industries and Bank Muscat. Other notable performers included OQ Exploration and Production and OQ Gas Networks.

In summary, 38 securities posted gains for the week, led by the Oman and Emirates Investment Holding Company, which increased by 23%. Analysts are optimistic that momentum will persist as more companies unveil their financial results in the approaching weeks.
