In a shocking incident on Wednesday evening, a computer science teacher was tragically shot on the campus of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in Uttar Pradesh, raising serious concerns about safety. Danish Rao, who had been teaching at the ABK High School for over 11 years, was killed near the university’s central library.

Eyewitness accounts and initial police inquiries indicate that around 8:50 pm, Rao and two colleagues were confronted by two armed men on a scooter. The attackers brandished their weapons before opening fire on Rao, who sustained multiple gunshot injuries, including two lethal shots to the head. One gunman allegedly warned him prior to the shooting, saying, “You don’t know me yet, now you will,” hinting at a possible assassination.

After the shooting, the assailants quickly escaped on their scooter, leaving the AMU community in shock.

Senior Superintendent of Police Neeraj Jadon confirmed that both suspects were involved in the shooting. Despite immediate medical attention at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Rao was pronounced dead upon arrival due to his injuries.

The incident, occurring in a crowded area by the central library, raises critical questions regarding campus security. In response, police have established six specialized teams to investigate and are currently analyzing CCTV footage to track the assailants’ movements.

Mohd Wasim Ali, the AMU Proctor, expressed profound sorrow over the death of the long-serving educator, reiterating the urgent need for stricter security measures on campus to protect its members.

This violent act comes shortly after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath praised improvements in state law enforcement during an Assembly session, emphasizing the need for a secure environment for growth. The murder of Rao brings to light the pressing issue of safety in educational institutions across the state.

Both the university administration and local authorities are under scrutiny to conduct a thorough investigation and prevent future occurrences. They urge anyone with information to step forward.

As the investigation unfolds, the AMU community grieves the loss of a devoted educator and awaits justice. Updates on the apprehension of the suspects are anticipated soon.
