Mohamed Salah could still make an emotional return for Liverpool before the end of the season despite suffering a recent injury scare, according to Reds manager Arne Slot. The Liverpool boss confirmed that the Egyptian forward’s injury is not serious and expressed confidence that Salah will play again before leaving Anfield this summer.
Salah was forced off during Liverpool’s recent 3-1 Premier League victory over Crystal Palace after appearing to suffer a hamstring problem. The 33-year-old left the field to a standing ovation from Anfield supporters, raising fears among fans that it could have been his final appearance for the club.
However, Liverpool later confirmed that the injury was only a “minor muscle injury,” easing concerns about a lengthy absence. Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s upcoming clash against Manchester United, Slot said Salah is recovering well and is expected to return during the final part of the campaign, although he will miss the trip to Old Trafford this weekend.
Slot praised Salah’s recovery mentality and explained that the forward often returns from injuries faster than expected because of his professionalism and fitness standards. The Dutch coach described the positive medical update as a “big relief” for the club and supporters.
The Liverpool manager also said Salah deserves a “big send-off” before leaving the club. The Egyptian star announced in March that he would depart Liverpool at the end of the 2025-26 season, ending a remarkable nine-year spell at Anfield.
Salah has become one of the greatest players in Liverpool’s history since joining the club in 2017. During his time at Anfield, he helped Liverpool win the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and several other major trophies.
The Egyptian forward has also broken numerous records during his Liverpool career. He currently stands among the club’s all-time leading scorers and remains one of the most successful African footballers in Premier League history.
This season has been more difficult for Salah compared to his previous campaigns. Reports suggest he scored only seven Premier League goals this season after leading the scoring charts last year. The campaign also included public tension between Salah and Slot earlier in the season after the player was briefly dropped from the starting lineup.
Despite those challenges, Liverpool supporters remain eager to give Salah a proper farewell before his departure. Fans feared the recent injury could deny him a final appearance at Anfield, especially after his emotional reaction while leaving the pitch against Crystal Palace.
Liverpool still have several important matches remaining as they continue fighting for qualification to next season’s UEFA Champions League. Salah is now expected to target a return for one of the club’s final league fixtures, potentially including Liverpool’s last home game of the season against Brentford at Anfield.
Slot said the club remains hopeful that Salah will recover in time to receive the farewell supporters believe he deserves after nearly a decade of success in a Liverpool shirt.
