Adelaide, Australia: Rising star Mirra Andreeva, currently ranked eighth in the world, showcased her skill by winning her fourth WTA Tour title with a decisive 6-3, 6-1 victory over 19-year-old Victoria Mboko in the final of the Adelaide International.

This 18-year-old Russian talent, who celebrated back-to-back WTA 1000 triumphs in Dubai and Indian Wells last year, is set to challenge Paris Olympics silver medallist Donna Vekic in her first match at the Australian Open, held in Melbourne Park.

Mboko made a strong start, quickly establishing a 3-0 lead in the first set. Nevertheless, Andreeva rallied brilliantly, winning six consecutive games to clinch the first set. The second set was dominated by Andreeva, who broke early, won the initial three games, and ultimately sealed the match on her serve.

During the awards ceremony, Andreeva humorously acknowledged her hard-earned victory, expressing gratitude for her diligence, mental fortitude, and support from her coach, the former world number two, Conchita Martinez.

The Canadian player, Victoria Mboko, requested a medical timeout during the match. After a standout year that saw her become the youngest player since Serena Williams to defeat four major champions and clinch the Canadian Open, she will compete against Australian Emerson Jones in her opening round at the Australian Open.

In the men's final at Adelaide, Czech athlete Tomas Machac triumphed over France's Ugo Humbert with a score of 6-4, 6-7(2), 6-2.

In Auckland, Jakub Mensik also had a victorious day, defeating Sebastian Baez 6-3, 7-6(7) to earn his second ATP title following last year's success in Miami Open, where he notably bested his mentor, Novak Djokovic. Mensik is set to face Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta in the opening round of the Australian Open, while Baez will compete against Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.

In another Australian Open warm-up event in Hobart, Italy's Elisabetta Cocciaretto claimed her first WTA title since 2023, prevailing over American Iva Jovic with a score of 6-4, 6-4.
