Severe Fog Causes Major Flight Disruptions at Delhi Airport

On Wednesday, Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport faced substantial disruptions as thick fog enveloped the city. This led to the cancellation of around 78 arriving flights and 70 departures, with two flights redirected to other airports.

IndiGo, a major domestic airline, issued a travel advisory to alert passengers about potential delays that could persist into the afternoon, citing low visibility affecting Delhi and several northern Indian airports. Additionally, flights to Pantnagar and Dehradun saw cancellations due to the fog.

IndiGo has assured travelers that efforts are ongoing to coordinate both arrivals and departures, ensuring a smooth flow and maintaining passenger comfort. Staff members were deployed throughout the airport to assist travelers.

By early afternoon, visibility began to improve, allowing flights to operate more smoothly. The airport's advisory encouraged passengers to stay connected with their airlines for the latest updates, confirming that ground staff were available to help in all terminals.

Given the dense fog, operations were conducted under CAT III instrument landing system procedures, which may result in delays and cancellations. The airport has expressed apologies for the disruptions and reassured travelers of continued assistance during these adverse weather conditions.

Earlier that morning, the heavy fog had shrouded Delhi and neighboring areas of the National Capital Region, severely reducing visibility and impacting traffic and daily routines in multiple regions.

As the day progressed, improvements in visibility allowed for the gradual stabilization of flight operations at one of the busiest airports in India.
