Luxembourg on Nationwide Yellow Alert for Black Ice

Post by : Samiksha

Luxembourg has been placed under a nationwide yellow weather alert due to the risk of black ice, according to Meteolux. The alert is in effect on Monday, January 12, from 3:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., with officials warning that hazardous icy conditions could develop across the country.

Meteolux said winter precipitation during the early hours of the night is expected to transition into freezing rain, significantly increasing the likelihood of black ice forming on roads, sidewalks and footpaths. Authorities noted that the timing and intensity of the alert period may be adjusted as conditions evolve throughout the day.

Motorists and pedestrians have been advised to exercise extra caution while travelling, as slippery surfaces could lead to dangerous driving conditions and an increased risk of accidents. Officials warned that even areas appearing wet may be icy, making black ice particularly difficult to detect.

Weather forecasts indicate temperatures hovering around freezing in the morning before gradually rising later in the day. Continued rainfall, combined with fluctuating temperatures, could prolong unsafe conditions in some areas. Residents are encouraged to stay updated with official weather advisories and adjust travel plans where possible.
