Dubai Introduces Dubai+ to Enhance Its Global Media Status

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai, presided over the inaugural 2026 meeting of the Dubai Media Council at Dubai Media. The agenda concentrated on assessing Dubai Media's strategic objectives to fortify the city's standing as a leading global hub for media, creative industries, and content production.

During this meeting, Sheikh Ahmed gave the green light for Dubai+, a digital platform designed to cater to a wide audience with diverse media offerings. This initiative addresses the evolving trends in digital consumption while meeting the mounting demand for both local and international entertainment. Featuring a variety of Arab and international films and series, Dubai+ sets its sights on reinforcing Dubai's status as a critical regional center for content creation and distribution.

The Council also explored strategies to boost local film production and elevate cinema as a vital cultural and creative industry. Samr Al Marzooqi, Director of Films and Production at the Dubai Media Council, detailed forthcoming initiatives to support the film sector, nurture creative talent, and highlight the work of Emirati and international filmmakers.

They also reviewed plans for the upcoming UAE-Kuwait Media Celebration, an event organized by the Dubai Press Club under the leadership of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, aimed at enhancing media relations and cultural exchange between the UAE and Kuwait.

Council members learned about significant national and community initiatives spearheaded by Brand Dubai in 2025, including the #ZayedAndRashid campaign and the Hatta Winter event as part of the #DubaiDestinations program.

Additionally, Sheikh Ahmed examined cutting-edge external broadcasting technologies introduced by Dubai Media and its collaborators, including systems launching for the first time in the Middle East.

Emphasizing the pivotal role of media in public awareness, development support, and trust-building, Sheikh Ahmed underlined the necessity of investing in talent, empowering youth, leveraging AI and technology, and attracting targeted investments to catalyze the growth of Dubai's media landscape.

Mona Al Marri, Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council, reiterated that the Council would ensure clear governance and measurable outcomes for all strategic initiatives. Meanwhile, Nehal Badri, Secretary General of the Council, confirmed ongoing efforts to broaden content development, enhance storytelling skills, and invest in talent and advanced production methods for sustainable growth.
