Kuala Lumpur Unveils Road Improvement Initiative to Combat Traffic Issues

In a move aimed at resolving ongoing traffic congestion, Kuala Lumpur City Hall has announced its new initiative, Projek Trafik Lancar. This project is dedicated to enhancing key road systems in Segambut, Seputeh, and Wangsa Maju.

Mayor Fadlun Mak Ujud highlighted that this initiative signifies a transformative approach to the utilization of development funds. Revenue obtained from new projects will now be directed towards enhancing surrounding infrastructure, including essential roadways, drainage systems, and public facilities.

In Segambut, a pivotal element of the plan entails the construction of a 562-metre road featuring tunnel and bridge connections, linking Jalan Kiara 7 to the SPRINT Highway’s Penchala Link. This construction is slated to commence within two months and is anticipated to last around two years.

This upgrade is forecasted to considerably improve traffic flow in high-congestion areas like Mont Kiara, which currently struggles with heavy traffic due to surrounding residential complexes. The new connection aims to shorten travel times and relieve the burden on existing roads catering to numerous condominiums.

In Seputeh, DBKL is set to expand a significant exit from the New Pantai Expressway to the KL-Seremban Highway from two lanes to three. This enhancement is expected to facilitate smoother travel for motorists from Jalan Kuchai Maju, Jalan Desa, and Salak, particularly during busy hours.

Conversely, plans are underway in Wangsa Maju to upgrade the junction at Jalan 7/24 and MRR2, which has been pinpointed as both a congestion hotspot and an accident-prone area, making improvements essential for safety and efficiency.

Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh expressed that these projects, which residents have been advocating for since 2018, are finally coming to fruition. Construction is expected to kick off between June and late 2026, with temporary traffic diversions planned throughout the construction period.

This initiative underscores a larger commitment to ensuring that infrastructure development keeps pace with urban growth, thereby enhancing the daily commuting experience for residents throughout Kuala Lumpur.
