Kim Jong Un Reaffirms Support for China's Multipolar Vision

Post by : Shakul

In a significant meeting in Pyongyang, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has pledged his support for China's ambition of a “multipolar world.” This interaction occurred with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, reflecting an increase in cooperation between these two allies.

Kim reiterated North Korea’s commitment to China’s “one-China principle,” underlining Beijing’s position on Taiwan. The agenda also covered various regional and global issues of shared interest, showcasing a deeper strategic bond.

Wang Yi, visiting for two days, remarked that the bilateral relationship is now stepping into a “new phase” post some recent diplomatic talks, including the summit between Kim and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The timing of these discussions is crucial as North Korea is keen on bolstering alliances amid escalating geopolitical challenges. Kim’s recent foreign policy actions aim to lessen isolation and engage with countries opposing U.S. dominance.

Furthermore, North Korea has forged closer connections with Russia while nurturing its economic and political affiliations with China. The resumption of direct flights and rail services signifies a recovery in relations following pandemic-related setbacks.

Wang Yi's first visit in seven years also entailed discussions with North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Sun Hui about broadening exchanges and cooperative efforts across various fields.

This visit precedes a forthcoming summit involving U.S. President Donald Trump and Xi Jinping, sparking optimism among some officials that renewed diplomatic efforts might positively affect regional stability, although North Korea has maintained its firm opposition to U.S. demands regarding denuclearization.
