Abu Dhabi: A groundbreaking collaboration has been established between K2 and WeRide, as they signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at UMEX 2026 to operate autonomous buses in the emirate. This initiative enjoys the backing of the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council (SASC) and the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC).
The partnership is poised to bolster Abu Dhabi’s ambition for smart mobility, facilitating the deployment of autonomous public transport solutions. This project reinforces the emirate's status as a pioneer in sustainable and intelligent transportation.
Waleed Alblooshi, K2's Vice President of Strategy, emphasized the significance of teamwork in realizing a future where autonomous tech operates effectively and sustainably. He highlighted K2’s commitment to providing local expertise, fleet management skills, and practical experience in mobility solutions.
According to Ryan Zhan, the Regional General Manager for the Middle East and Africa at WeRide, the MoU signifies an important growth milestone for the company in the region. He noted that the integration of WeRide’s Level 4 autonomous driving tech with K2’s local insights will expedite the development of safer and smarter public transport services in the UAE and beyond.
K2 brings a wealth of knowledge in the autonomous mobility field, with its subsidiaries conducting tests on robotaxis and last-mile delivery systems across extensive distances.
