Canadians Should Brace For Extreme Trump Measures

Israeli forces carried out deadly airstrikes in southern Lebanon on Sunday, killing at least 14 people and injuring 37 others, according to the country’s health ministry. The strikes come amid rising tensions despite an ongoing ceasefire, with civilians once again caught in the crossfire. Among those killed were two children and two women, highlighting the growing humanitarian impact of the conflict.
The Israel Defense Forces said the attacks targeted positions linked to Hezbollah, including fighters, rocket launchers, and a weapons storage site. Israeli officials accused Hezbollah of violating the ceasefire agreement and warned that military action would continue to ensure national security. Residents living in several towns beyond the designated buffer zone were urged to immediately evacuate and move north or west to avoid further danger.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the strikes, stating that Israel’s priority remains the safety of its citizens and soldiers. He emphasized that operations were being conducted in line with understandings reached with international partners, even as violence continues on both sides.
In response, Hezbollah said it would not stop its attacks against Israeli forces, accusing Israel of repeatedly breaching the ceasefire terms. The Iran-backed group stated that it no longer trusts diplomatic efforts and would continue military actions as long as Israeli strikes persist. Earlier in the day, Hezbollah claimed it had targeted Israeli troops and a rescue team inside Lebanon, while Israeli authorities reported that one soldier was killed and several others were injured.
The fragile ceasefire, brokered with support from the United States and in place since April 16, has reduced large-scale fighting but failed to completely stop hostilities. Both sides have continued exchanging fire, blaming each other for violations. Israeli forces also reported intercepting multiple drones approaching their territory, further raising concerns of escalation.
The conflict has already caused heavy losses since it intensified in early March, with more than 2,500 people reported killed in Lebanon alone. The ongoing violence has damaged infrastructure, displaced civilians, and increased fears of a wider regional war if diplomatic efforts fail to hold.
