Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has departed Pakistan and travelled to Russia for further high-level discussions, as diplomatic efforts continue to address tensions between Iran and the United States. The visit is part of an ongoing series of engagements aimed at keeping dialogue open despite stalled negotiations.
During his recent stay in Pakistan, Araghchi met with senior leaders including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Army Chief Asim Munir. The discussions focused on assessing the current state of peace efforts and exploring possible ways to revive talks between Tehran and Washington. Pakistan has been playing a mediating role in facilitating indirect communication between the two sides.
Iranian officials indicated that messages outlining Tehran’s key positions, including its stance on nuclear issues and the Strait of Hormuz, were conveyed to the United States through Pakistani channels. However, these exchanges were described as indirect communications rather than formal negotiations.
After his engagements in Pakistan, Araghchi also made a brief visit to Oman, another country known for its role in regional diplomacy, before continuing on to Moscow. In Russia, he is expected to meet senior officials to discuss bilateral relations and broader international developments linked to the ongoing conflict.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump has taken a cautious stance on further talks, cancelling a planned visit by US envoys to Islamabad and suggesting that Iran should initiate direct communication if it seeks a resolution. Although a ceasefire remains in place, uncertainty continues over whether formal negotiations will resume.
The situation remains complex, with economic and geopolitical impacts being felt globally, particularly due to disruptions linked to the Strait of Hormuz. Araghchi’s diplomatic outreach highlights Iran’s continued effort to engage with regional and global partners as it navigates the evolving crisis.
