Thailand's Justice Minister Updates on Oil Depot Investigations

During a press conference on April 8, 2026, Ruttapon Naowarat addressed the ongoing investigations concerning irregular activities by oil depot operators throughout Thailand. This session included high-ranking officials from various agencies, such as the Royal Thai Police and the Department of Special Investigation, along with representatives from the Ministries of Energy and Commerce.

The Minister pointed out that these investigations are part of governmental strategies aimed at averting fuel shortages as well as ensuring the correct distribution of oil across the nation. Regulatory bodies are vigilantly monitoring the entire fuel trading process, with different agencies tasked to oversee each segment of the supply chain. Operations were coordinated in provinces like Rayong, Pathum Thani, Samut Sakhon, and Khon Kaen.

Initial findings indicated multiple irregular practices. For instance, in one case, oil was acquired from depots but failed to reach gas stations, breaching trading rules. Another issue involved a depot that persisted in its operations despite a revoked license. Authorities also identified delays in oil distribution prior to price hikes and occurrences of inaccurate reporting to governmental bodies.

Officials underscored the implementation of more stringent controls concerning oil transport routes, delivery schedules, and storage practices. The government has reiterated its dedication to ensuring transparency, preventing supply issues, and fostering public trust through collaborative actions across all relevant agencies.
