Two 19-year-old men have been charged after a taxi driver was shot dead in North Battleford
Devastating bushfire conditions are intensifying in Victoria, leading to the disappearance of three individuals and the destruction of numerous homes, while firefighters tackle many blazes throughout the state.
Emergency alerts have been issued for almost half of Victoria, where rising temperatures and fierce winds are creating alarmingly hazardous fire conditions.
New outbreaks were detected on Friday near locations such as Horsham, Ouyen, Avalon, and Skipton. Crews are engaged in combating significant fires close to Longwood and in Mount Lawson State Park near Walwa, with additional fires affecting Victoria’s alpine regions and the Far East Gippsland area.
Authorities indicate that changing winds complicate firefighting efforts. David Nugent, spokesperson for the State Control Centre, cautioned that conditions may deteriorate, increasing the likelihood of additional ignitions.
Emergency responders remain vigilant as teams strive to safeguard lives and properties amid the unpredictable and rapidly evolving fire behavior.
