Indonesia Enhances Military with New Rafale Jets

Indonesia has made a significant advancement in its military capabilities with the official induction of several new defense aircraft, including six Rafale fighter jets from France, during a ceremony held in Jakarta.

President Prabowo Subianto was present at the event at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base on Monday, where he witnessed the delivery of new aircraft to the Indonesian Air Force.

The newly acquired defense assets encompass six Rafale fighter jets, four Dassault Falcon 8X planes, and one Airbus A400M Atlas military transport aircraft, forming part of Indonesia’s comprehensive military modernization initiative.

In 2022, Indonesia entered into an $8.1 billion contract with France, while Prabowo was defense minister, to secure a total of 42 Rafale fighter jets for its air force.

In remarks following the ceremony, President Prabowo emphasized the nation’s commitment to enhancing its defense capabilities in light of increasing global geopolitical tensions and local security challenges.

He noted that the aim is to uphold stability and bolster deterrence to safeguard Indonesia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Prabowo asserted that Indonesia harbors no aggressive aims, aiming instead to fortify national security through a robust and modern military force.

Military experts suggest that the introduction of advanced aircraft, such as the Rafale jets, will markedly elevate Indonesia’s air defense and operational readiness within the Indo-Pacific arena.
