India Critiques Pakistan at UN Over Terrorism and Defends Operation Sindoor

Post by : Mina Carter

India issued a strong condemnation of Pakistan during a session at the United Nations Security Council, disputing Islamabad's "false" assertions regarding Operation Sindoor and denouncing its employment of terrorism as an instrument of state policy. India’s Permanent Representative, Parvathaneni Harish, accused the Pakistan envoy of delivering a distorted and self-serving narrative concerning events from the previous May.

Harish pointed out that terrorists backed by Pakistan had mercilessly killed 26 innocent civilians in Pahalagam in April 2025. He reminded the council of its call for accountability for the perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and supporters of this grievous attack. He asserted that India’s response was judicious and focused on dismantling the terrorist infrastructure without escalating hostilities.

He revealed that Pakistan posed continued threats against India until May 9, after which the Pakistani military reached out to their Indian counterparts on May 10 to request a cessation of hostilities. Harish also challenged Pakistan’s claims of triumph by citing public evidence of damage inflicted on various Pakistani air bases during India’s operations, which included demolished runways and scorched hangars.

On the terrorism front, Harish forcefully rejected Pakistan’s attempt to rationalize terrorism in the region, stating, “Terrorism can never be normalized.” He criticized Pakistan, a member state of the UN Security Council, for pursuing a biased agenda aimed solely at undermining India and its citizens.

He reiterated India’s unwavering position on Jammu and Kashmir, declaring it an integral and non-negotiable part of India, with no right for Pakistan to meddle in its domestic affairs.

With respect to the Indus Waters Treaty, Harish articulated India’s choice to suspend the agreement, explaining that while India had signed it 65 years ago in good faith, Pakistan has consistently contravened the treaty's principles by instigating conflict and supporting acts of terrorism. India’s holding of the treaty in abeyance is dependent on Pakistan halting cross-border terrorism permanently.

He concluded with a caution to Pakistan about respecting the rule of law, highlighting the constitutional controversies plaguing the nation, including the contentious 27th Amendment that bestows lifetime immunity on its military chief.

India’s assertive stance at the UN Security Council emphasizes its dedication to fighting terrorism and maintaining national security, while firmly dismissing Pakistan’s attempts to misrepresent facts and intervene in India’s sovereignty.
