India Denounces Iranian Assault on UAE Oil Facility, Several Indians Injured

Post by : Bianca Hayes

India has issued a strong denunciation of Iran’s recent missile and drone assault on the Fujairah Petroleum Industries Zone in the UAE, resulting in injuries to three Indian nationals.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) characterized the strike as “unacceptable”, demanding an immediate cessation of attacks on civilian infrastructure and innocent individuals. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized India’s commitment to fostering dialogue and diplomacy to bring peace and stability to West Asia.

This incident escalates amid escalating tensions between Iran and the United States. UAE officials confirmed that Iran launched four cruise missiles towards its territory, of which three were intercepted by air defense systems; the fourth missile fell into the sea.

Additionally, a drone strike led to a fire at the Fujairah Oil Industrial Zone, a crucial hub for the UAE’s oil exports. Emergency responders were swift to control the outbreak. The three injured Indian nationals were immediately taken to hospital and are reported to have sustained moderate injuries.

The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi has assured it is coordinating with local authorities to provide necessary medical assistance and support to those affected.

India reiterated the necessity of ensuring secure and free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping lane, and expressed its readiness to aid in peaceful solutions.

In a rapid response, the UAE government condemned the attack, describing it as a serious threat to national security, while reserving the right to respond appropriately.

Fujairah is strategically vital as it permits the UAE to export oil through the Gulf of Oman, circumventing the Strait of Hormuz. This latest attack has heightened concerns regarding growing instability in the Gulf, particularly concerning energy infrastructure and shipping lanes.

The situation remains precarious, with apprehensions about possible further escalations in the region.
