Huawei has unveiled the Mate 70 Air in China, targeting the premium ultra-slim smartphone market with a design challenging that of the iPhone Air. The device measures a mere 6.6mm in thickness and weighs 206g, showcasing an elegant celestial-inspired look with gold thread, brocade silk details, and a glowing star-ring effect.
The smartphone boasts a 7-inch FHD+ OLED screen capable of delivering 1.07 billion colors along with a P3 wide color gamut and peaks at a brightness of 4,000 nits, ensuring fantastic visuals for streaming and gaming. It is also equipped with Vivid Audio and HDR certification to enhance multimedia experiences.
For added durability, the Mate 70 Air features Kunlun Glass for drop resistance along with robust brocade fiber to provide impact protection. With IP68 and IP69 ratings, it is also resistant to dust and water.
Versatile Camera Array
The rear camera setup is anchored by a 50MP primary sensor with OIS, accompanied by a 12MP telephoto lens with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide macro cam, and a 1.5MP multispectral Red Maple TrueColor sensor. The device also includes a 10.7MP ultra-wide front camera ideal for selfies and video calls. AI functions like AI-assisted composition, Ultra HD Panorama, and AI Portrait Retouching enhance photography.
Performance and Battery Efficiency
Powering the Mate 70 Air is Huawei's Kirin 9000 series, with a 12GB RAM option using the Kirin 9020B and a 16GB RAM version featuring the Kirin 9020A. Storage options are 256GB and 512GB, though there's no expandable memory slot.
The device is equipped with a 6,500mAh silicon-carbon battery that supports 66W SuperCharge, maintaining its sleek form. A vapor chamber cooling system works to improve thermal management, but wireless charging is not included.
Running on HarmonyOS 5.1, the Mate 70 Air integrates AI Air Transfer, AI noise cancellation, Tap-to-Share, AI face-swap detection, and stylus functionality for annotations, plus satellite messaging and stereo audio via Huawei Histen.

The Mate 70 Air is available in three finishes: Gold Thread & Silver Brocade, Feather Robe White, and Radiant Gold Black, with prices starting at 4,199 yuan (around Rs 52,000) for the 12GB/256GB model. The 12GB/512GB and 16GB/256GB models are listed at 4,699 yuan (approx. Rs 58,400), while the high-end 16GB/512GB version retails for 5,199 yuan (approx. Rs 64,600).
