Dubai Teams Up with Google to Empower Emirati SMEs

Post by : Bianca Hayes

In an effort to bolster the digital capabilities of local businesses, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Establishment for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Dubai SME), part of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, has partnered with Google to unveil a new initiative aimed at enhancing the global competitiveness of Emirati-owned SMEs.

The collaboration was announced in Dubai with key officials from both organizations present, marking the commencement of a pilot programme designed to provide select Emirati firms with cutting-edge digital marketing tools, expert resources, and practical guidance. This initiative aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, aiming to position Dubai as the fastest-growing hub for entrepreneurs.

During the pilot stage, 10 high-potential Emirati businesses have been shortlisted based on rigorous selection criteria to test the programme’s model. These businesses will benefit from advertising credits, creative assistance, and direct access to Google’s digital platforms, enabling them to launch more effective campaigns at reduced costs. The initiative specifically addresses common hurdles faced by smaller enterprises, such as tight budgets and limited visibility on major advertising platforms.

A key highlight of this collaboration is its co-funding framework, where the investment for each participating SME is equally apportioned among Dubai SME, Google, and the business itself. Officials emphasize that this model fosters responsibility, ownership, and sustainable capability development, enabling companies to thrive beyond the initial support period.

Participating businesses will also receive invaluable mentorship through the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism’s extensive network of public and private partners. This guidance encompasses digital strategy, content creation, and campaign optimization, ensuring each business not only executes better advertisements but also understands how to enhance its long-term digital footprint.

The pilot programme is set to launch later this year and is anticipated to yield performance insights that will inform future large-scale initiatives supporting a wider array of SMEs throughout Dubai. This initiative is viewed as another significant move towards cultivating an ecosystem where local businesses can innovate, compete on a global scale, and contribute more robustly to Dubai’s economic aspirations.
