Explosive Device Blasts North Vancouver MLA’s Office

Early on Friday morning, around 4:15 a.m., the office of North Vancouver-Lonsdale MLA and B.C. Infrastructure Minister Bowinn Ma was hit by an explosive device, the RCMP confirmed .

Here’s what we know so far:

  • The first report came shortly before 2:45 a.m., when a loud bang was heard in Lower Lonsdale. RCMP officers checked the area but didn’t find anything unusual .

  • Minutes later, police returned after another explosion — this time they found the front door to Bowinn Ma’s office breached and damaged, evidence police say points to an explosive device detonation.

  • The RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit, along with police dog teams and forensic officers, secured the scene. The building was cleared and deemed safe, with no injuries reported.

  • Minister Ma and her staff are safe, but all scheduled appointments were cancelled until further notice due to the security concern, according to statements from her office .

  • Premier David Eby called the incident “profoundly concerning,” stressing that elected officials deserve safety at work .

  • The RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit is leading the probe and is canvassing CCTV and dashcam footage from around West Esplanade and Chesterfield between 2:30 and 4:30 a.m. to identify suspects or gather more clues .
