In a pivotal gathering held in Milan, senior policymakers and experts from Europe and the Gulf convened on Friday to enhance collaborations between the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) amidst increasing regional tensions.

The event took place at Palazzo Clerici, organized through a partnership between Doha Forum, MED Dialogues, the Italian Institute for International Political Studies, and the Center for International Policy Research.

Under the theme “Bridging Stability: EU-GCC Cooperation in an Era of Fragmentation,” the discussions aimed to address escalating regional issues and the reshaped geopolitical dynamics following recent conflicts in the Middle East.

Participants examined the enduring conflict involving Iran and its ramifications for regional stability, worldwide energy markets, and economic security. Additionally, the need for heightened collaboration in security, crisis management, energy resilience, and trade was prominently featured in talks.

The discussions also placed a spotlight on vital developments across the Gulf region, the Levant, and key maritime trade routes crucial to global commerce and energy supplies.

A prominent plenary session included insights from Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, Adviser to the Prime Minister and official spokesperson for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, alongside Luigi Di Maio.

During his address, Dr. Al Ansari characterized the Gulf as “a stable partner for Europe in security and energy,” noting that the current regional crisis underscores the mutual interests at play.

He asserted that ongoing stability hinges on sustained cooperation capable of navigating periods of turbulence and regional discord.

Luigi Di Maio echoed these sentiments, stating the interdependence of security in the Gulf and Europe and calling for strengthened partnerships and unity to effectively combat shared challenges.

In private discussions, attendees explored the future regional landscape post-conflict, along with defense collaboration, energy security, and industrial policy. There was a collective emphasis on converting diplomatic talks into actionable strategies.

The day's events culminated in a reception hosted by the Consulate General of Qatar in Milan.

The organizers also announced that the 24th edition of the Doha Forum will be held in Doha from December 5–6, 2026, themed “Redefining Global Trust.” This meeting aims to gather global leaders and policymakers to discuss international collaboration and build confidence in an ever-evolving global context.
