Casualties Rise in Southern Lebanon Due to Israeli Air Strikes

At least 13 individuals lost their lives in southern Lebanon following a series of Israeli air strikes that targeted multiple locations, according to local state media and health officials. These assaults were carried out even as a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah remains in effect.

The National News Agency (NNA) reported that an Israeli strike on a house in Kfar Dounine resulted in six fatalities and left seven others injured during the night.

On Tuesday, Lebanon’s health ministry disclosed that two paramedics from the Lebanese Civil Defense were killed while on a rescue mission in Nabatieh, with one other paramedic sustaining injuries. This rescue operation was in response to a prior attack that had already claimed one life.

The fallen paramedics were named Hussein Jaber and Ahmad Noura. President Joseph Aoun of Lebanon expressed his deep sorrow over their deaths, arguing that the ongoing Israeli strikes hinder efforts to establish calm.

Lebanon’s health ministry accused Israel of intentionally targeting emergency personnel, claiming this violates international humanitarian principles. The ministry highlighted that 108 emergency medical workers have died in the ongoing conflict, with over 140 attacks documented on ambulances and healthcare facilities.

Additionally, the NNA reported that a Syrian national was killed and his wife injured by an Israeli drone strike on a motorcycle in the Tayr Debba region.

The Israeli defense forces assert they targeted a suspect reportedly attempting to fire a surface-to-air missile at their aircraft. They also accused Hezbollah of launching explosive drones at Israeli troops based in southern Lebanon, although no injuries were mentioned.

Another Israeli strike on Jabshit reportedly resulted in three additional fatalities later on Tuesday.

Hezbollah has affirmed that it executed drone strikes against Israeli forces located in Naqoura, Bayada, and Houla in southern Lebanon. The group also claimed a successful strike against an Israeli soldier in Kibbutz Manara, located in northern Israel.

In recent days, Israel has ramped up its military activities in southern Lebanon, purporting to focus on Hezbollah fighters and their infrastructures. Israeli officials have accused the Iran-backed militia of breaching a ceasefire agreement facilitated by the U.S. back in April.

As a response, Hezbollah continues to launch rocket and drone assaults on positions within northern Israel and southern Lebanon.

Both Israeli and Lebanese officials are scheduled to gather in Washington on Thursday. The aim of the meeting is to search for a resolution to this escalating conflict.

This recent flare-up in hostilities commenced on March 2nd, following a coordinated attack by the United States and Israel targeting Iran. Hezbollah retaliated with mortar strikes into Israel, eliciting heavy Israeli air assaults and a ground invasion into southern Lebanon.

As reported by Lebanon’s health ministry, the ongoing conflict has resulted in approximately 2,869 deaths in Lebanon to date, including over 380 since the ceasefire was initiated. Israeli statistics indicate the loss of 18 soldiers and four civilians during this same interval.
