In a significant move to bolster bilateral relations, Thailand and Vietnam marked a new chapter of cooperation as Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul greeted Vietnamese President To Lam during his official visit to Bangkok. This meeting underscores the commitment of both Southeast Asian nations to enhance collaboration across various sectors.
The welcome ceremony occurred Thursday morning at Government House in Bangkok, shortly after Prime Minister Anutin returned from his diplomatic engagements in France. Accompanied by his wife, Ngo Phuong Ly, President To Lam was welcomed as an esteemed guest of the Thai government.
During the formal greeting, Prime Minister Anutin expressed his warm regards to the Vietnamese delegation, and together, they inspected the military honor guard. The two leaders then moved to the Thai Khu Fah Building to capture an official group photograph, inscribe the guest book, and exchange commemorative gifts inside the Ivory Room.
Following the ceremonial activities, both nations engaged in focused bilateral discussions on regional and international topics. Thailand and Vietnam reaffirmed their intention to deepen cooperation in economic development, trade, investment, national security, tourism, and regional partnerships within Southeast Asia.
The discussions evolved into a plenary meeting that saw participation from senior ministers and key officials of both governments. The Thai delegation included Deputy Prime Ministers responsible for finance, transport, commerce, and education, while the Vietnamese contingent consisted of senior Communist Party members, defense officials, foreign affairs representatives, and ministers in charge of industry, trade, finance, and technology.
Officials from both countries underscored the necessity for robust collaboration in light of evolving global economic and geopolitical circumstances. These talks are indicative of the ongoing efforts by Thailand and Vietnam to enhance connectivity, broaden regional trading opportunities, and fortify ASEAN cooperation towards achieving long-term development objectives.
The visit of President To Lam is perceived as an additional important diplomatic landmark in the relationship between Bangkok and Hanoi. Analysts suggest that these high-level discussions might pave the way for expanded economic agreements and closer strategic partnerships in the upcoming future.
