The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre has announced an enhancement to the SEHHI initiative aimed at increasing access to nutritious food options within the emirate's workplaces. This initiative introduces updated technical guidelines to foster improved nutrition habits among the workforce.

This enhancement is focused on embedding preventive health measures into everyday life by upgrading the environments where employees spend significant time. The objective is to simplify healthy choices, making them readily available without additional effort from individuals.

The revamped workplace guidelines offer a clear framework for both government and private sector entities. They are designed to help employers translate their health ambitions into practical actions by developing spaces that encourage healthy behaviours and food choices.

A pivotal requirement involves displaying calorie counts at food service locations. Moreover, at least 30% of available menu items must comply with SEHHI’s nutritional benchmarks. The guidelines outline how meals, snacks, beverages, and vending machine products should be arranged to ensure healthier options are prominently displayed and easily accessible.

The framework delineates the responsibilities of all participating parties, including employers and food service vendors. Steps include registration, assigning responsible personnel, approving food selections, training staff, initiating awareness campaigns, and continuously monitoring progress and outcomes.

Dr. Rashed Al Suwaidi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, emphasized the significance of this initiative. He remarked that workplaces play a crucial role in influencing daily habits and that the initiative aims to integrate healthy choices into daily routines seamlessly.

These guidelines are applicable to all Abu Dhabi workplaces offering food and beverages, such as cafeterias, catering companies, vending machines, kiosks, and coffee stations. Employers are encouraged to register and implement the initiative via official SEHHI channels.
