UAE's Cultural Flair Shines at the Abu Dhabi Festival in the U.S.

This November, the Abu Dhabi Festival Abroad mesmerized audiences in the United States, showcasing the artistic vision of Emiratis at some of the most distinguished cultural hubs. Spearheaded by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the festival's cultural diplomacy initiative facilitated concerts and dialogues that interconnected Middle Eastern and Western musical legacies.

Among the key attractions was the American debut of Shams Wujoudi, crafted by Faraj Abyad, intertwining Syrian folkloric rhythms with Western instrumentation. This stunning performance at Peter Jay Sharp Theatre was enhanced with visual art from the Barjeel Art Foundation and introduced the newly established Athar Orchestra.

At Carnegie Hall, audience members were treated to the world premiere of the opera A Journey to the New World, performed by the Reina Sofía School of Music Symphony Orchestra. Conducted by Maestro Andrés Orozco-Estrada, the orchestra showcased pieces by Albéniz, Barber, and Dvořák, alongside Emirati talent Elham Al Marzooqi, violinist Renaud Capuçon, and musicians from the Colombian Youth Philharmonic.

The festival also prioritized conversations around cultural exchange. The Arts in Embassies discussions, hosted in New York on November 14th and Washington, D.C. on November 18th, featured artists such as Al Marzooqi, Abyad, Kinan Azmeh, and Kate Seely. These interactions emphasized music's vital role in fostering understanding and creative collaboration across cultures.

Through these international exhibitions, the Abu Dhabi Festival is firmly positioning Emirati talent on the global stage while fostering significant cultural bonds, providing international audiences a window into the UAE's burgeoning artistic landscape.
