The Emirates College for Advanced Education has successfully wrapped up its 12th Annual Autism Forum, emphasizing its dedication to inclusive education and support for individuals with autism spectrum disorder throughout the UAE.

Over two days and under the theme “Autism and Humanity – Every Life Has Value,” the forum gathered educators, specialists, policymakers, families, and key partners to discuss the future of inclusive education and enhance collaboration in the educational sector. This event was conducted in conjunction with Autism Awareness Month and in alignment with the UAE’s Year of Family initiative.

The forum aimed to foster empathy, empowerment, and actionable strategies to enhance the quality of life for individuals with autism and support their integral inclusion in society. Organised annually by ECAE, it provides a platform for sharing knowledge, best practices, and encouraging discussions on fostering inclusive educational environments for all students.

Dr. May Laith Al Taee, Vice Chancellor of ECAE, emphasized that inclusive education is a collective obligation starting from families and extending to schools and the broader community. She underscored the necessity of creating educational settings where everyone has equal opportunities to learn and engage actively.

On the forum’s first day, discussions ranged over the latest advancements in inclusive education, including collaborative teaching tactics, community alliances, and effective methodologies for students with autism. Experts spotlighted research-backed approaches that aim to refine inclusive education systems.

An “Inspirational Stories” segment was also part of the forum, featuring a film and book initiative designed to enhance empathy, understanding, and inclusion for those with autism.

The second day saw participants engaging in discussions surrounding the genuine inclusion of children with autism spectrum disorder and the vital role of collaboration among families, educators, and specialists. Sessions delved into the contributions of research-informed education and community-based studies toward improving inclusive practices and achieving sustainable impact.

The forum was conducted in collaboration with key institutions, including the Ministry of Education, Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, Special Olympics UAE, University of Birmingham Dubai, and other organizations dedicated to bolstering inclusive education in the nation.

In celebration of Autism Awareness Month, ECAE is also continuing a series of supplementary activities, including panel discussions and awareness sessions under the “I Learn” and “I Care” initiatives. These programs spotlight the crucial role families play in nurturing inclusive children and fostering deeper social inclusion within communities.
