Winners of Dubai's Global House of the Future 2.0 Contest Announced

Dubai – The Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation (MBRCGI) has unveiled the winners of the House of the Future 2.0 Global Competition, organized under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. This announcement was made during an exhibition at Emirates Towers Boulevard, presenting winning designs from both editions of the competition over a two-month display period.

The showcase features groundbreaking architectural concepts for sustainable homes, reflecting the UAE's ambition to create smart, future-oriented cities centered on sustainability and well-being.

Competition Results

In its second edition, the competition, conducted in partnership with the Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme, honored trailblazing designs that embody smart and sustainable living:

  • 1st Place: House of Courts (Germany) – Merges traditional UAE architectural features like wind towers and internal courtyards with contemporary sustainable practices.

  • 2nd Place: Modular (UK) – A versatile design focused on future urban housing needs.

  • 3rd Place: FlexiCourts (China) – Designed to maximize natural light and airflow, minimizing energy usage.

  • Innovation Awards: Local House (UK) and Regenerative Vernacular (Canada) – Emphasizing cultural richness and low-emission 3D-printed construction.

Insights from Officials

HE Suhail bin Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, referred to the competition as a significant step towards establishing a seamless Emirati model for future housing, balancing efficiency, adaptability, and environmental consciousness. He underscored the importance of collaboration between MBRCGI and the Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme in driving innovative housing solutions that align with the UAE's smart city aspirations.

HE Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for AI, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, described the competition as a catalyst for global innovation in sustainable design, urging designers worldwide to engage in conceptualizing future living spaces.

Global Participation and Prize Distribution

The competition drew interest with over 5,000 entries from 140 nations. The overall prize pool of AED 1 million was divided as follows: AED 500,000 for the first place winner, AED 200,000 for second, AED 100,000 for third, and AED 200,000 allocated for the Innovation Award category. An esteemed panel of international architects assessed the submissions based on design quality, sustainable practices, adaptability, and execution potential.

The exhibition invites the public to discover pioneering models of future city homes, highlighting designs intended for expansion, flexibility, and sustainable living, all under AED 800,000. This display showcases the UAE’s commitment to leading the charge in innovative housing solutions globally while demonstrating tangible implementation possibilities for housing initiatives in the future.
