Dubai is embracing technology with the launch of AI-driven parking cameras as Parkin, the emirate's principal public parking operator, installs hundreds of intelligent cameras throughout bustling city zones. This initiative is set to streamline parking fee collection, enhance parking management, and alleviate traffic congestion.
In its inaugural phase, over 500 AI-equipped cameras have been set up in high-traffic destinations like Burj Khalifa, Trade Centre 1, and Al Corniche. These cameras are strategically placed on curbs and poles to provide real-time monitoring of parking spaces.
Utilizing advanced artificial intelligence, the system captures images of vehicles and automatically interprets number plates. It tracks vehicle entry and exit, calculates parking time, and processes payments autonomously, eliminating the need for drivers to engage with parking meters or send SMS requests.
Parkin reports that this project includes the region's first curb-side camera technology, designed to seamlessly integrate into Dubai’s street environment. In addition to on-street parking facilities, approximately 200 more cameras will be set up in controlled parking lots across the emirate.
These smart devices are entirely powered by solar energy, aligning with Dubai's objectives to promote sustainable and eco-friendly urban infrastructure.
The AI framework is seamlessly incorporated into the Parkin mobile application, available on iOS, Android, and Huawei devices. Users can process payments automatically via the app’s digital wallet feature, ensuring a fluid and completely digital parking process.
Eng. Mohamed Abdulla Al Ali, CEO of Parkin, emphasized that this rollout marks a key advancement in enhancing Dubai’s smart parking framework and optimizing customer service throughout the emirate.
Moreover, this technology aims to minimize congestion by offering real-time insights into parking availability, thus reducing the time drivers spend looking for parking in busy locales.
The automated enforcement system is anticipated to enhance accuracy in identifying parking infringements, thereby lowering the likelihood of incorrect penalties, as fees will be directly tied to real parking duration.
Eng. Talal Al Ajmi, CTO of Parkin, noted that the company's transition to a data-driven approach will augment operational precision and consistency across Dubai.
