Dubai is embarking on an ambitious journey to transform its media landscape as His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum presided over a pivotal meeting of the Dubai Media Council. The objective is to elevate the media sector's GDP contribution from 1.4% to an impressive 3% by 2033. This initiative aligns with the emirate's broader Dubai Economic Agenda D33, highlighting the significant role of media.

During the discussions, Sheikh Ahmed emphasized the media industry's untapped potential to further enhance Dubai's economic presence and global influence. He underscored the necessity of collaboration between public and private media entities, supported by robust governance and policies to foster sustainable progress.

A prominent focus of the meeting was the acceleration of digital transformation. Sheikh Ahmed asserted that the media must adapt to rapid technological advancements, as digital platforms are integral to community engagement and the emirate's global stature. He reiterated the need for innovative digital solutions and content that mirrors Dubai's leadership and modern identity.

The Council evaluated performance benchmarks for 2033, which include increasing media exports, broadening local content production, attracting foreign investment, and enhancing Dubai's audience reach both regionally and globally. Furthermore, new committees for film and gaming development have been established to support the flourishing creative sectors.

Her Excellency Mona Al Marri indicated that the transfer of regulatory authority to the Dubai Media Council under Law No. 29 of 2024 has fortified operational efficiency and aligned the sector with international benchmarks. This updated regulatory framework positions Dubai as a dynamic and professional media center.

Additionally, the meeting brought attention to initiatives designed to cultivate young Emirati talent, including leadership and skills-based programs, and the newly launched Dubai Film and Games Forum, which aims to assist the emerging generation of media professionals.

Sheikh Ahmed also endorsed an updated digital strategy for Dubai Media Incorporated, which involves expanding the "Awaan" platform, investing in original storytelling, and enhancing audience interaction through novel formats like podcasts. DMI's goal is to establish a vibrant digital identity centered around engaging narratives and globally relevant Emirati themes.

Young representatives from the DMI Youth Council were present during this meeting, a part of ongoing efforts to empower future industry leaders. The session concluded with discussions involving participants from media talent initiatives aimed at equipping upcoming national leaders for increased roles in the sector.

With this new direction, Dubai signals a decade of heightened innovation and greater global visibility, aspiring to establish itself as a prominent media powerhouse.
