In a significant move, Dubai Municipality, in partnership with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), has kickstarted a major tree-planting campaign aimed at planting 20,000 trees throughout Dubai. This initiative commemorates the 20th anniversary of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s leadership.

The launch event took place at the Quranic Garden in Al Khawaneej, supported by Furjan Dubai as a community partner. Various Directors General and CEOs from Dubai Government entities participated in the tree planting alongside students and local community members.

Key figures at the event included Abdulla Mohammed Al Basti, Secretary-General of the Executive Council of Dubai; Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Director General of the Community Development Authority; Abdullah Ali bin Zayed Al-Falasi, Director General of Dubai Government Human Resources; Dr. Alawi Alsheikh Ali, Director General of the Dubai Health Authority; Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality; and Aisha Abdulla Miran, Director General of KHDA, among others.

This initiative aligns with the Urban Environment pillar of the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033, focusing on expanding green spaces and enhancing urban landscaping to foster a healthier environment across the emirate.

Dubai Municipality is spearheading the operational implementation of this project, offering a variety of ornamental and fruit-bearing trees as well as shrubs. These plants will be strategically placed in locations such as Al Barsha South, Al Barsha Pond Park, Nakheel Park in Al Aweer, Al Mizhar Second, Nad Al Sheba’s Blossoms Park, Al Safa Park, Umm Suqeim, Al Quoz Pond Park, Al Warqa’a 3, and the Quranic Garden.

To promote sustainability, smart irrigation systems and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies will be employed to optimize water usage and ensure the healthy growth of the trees. Long-term maintenance, regular monitoring, and a dedicated support hotline have also been established.

KHDA is encouraging participation from schools and universities, overseeing the distribution of saplings and advising institutions to foster organized planting activities. Students are motivated to engage actively and learn about environmental responsibility.

Furjan Dubai is orchestrating community involvement by organizing volunteer activities, managing sapling collection points, and promoting events through digital channels to boost public engagement.

This initiative embodies Sheikh Mohammed’s vision of sustainability as a collective responsibility shared between the government and the community. By planting 20,000 trees across parks, neighborhoods, and educational institutions, the goal is to create a lasting environmental impact, support afforestation efforts, and enhance the quality of life in Dubai.
