Dubai Empowers Global Startups Through Prototypes for Humanity Initiative

Post by : Bianca Hayes

Dubai has propelled three international university initiatives into pilot phases and commercial growth within the UAE as part of the ‘Dubai Future Solutions – Prototypes for Humanity’ program, recognized as one of the world’s preeminent platforms supporting academic innovation and entrepreneurship.

Annually hosted in Dubai, this program is patronized by Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and overseen by the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority in collaboration with the Dubai Future Foundation, Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Authority, Art Dubai, and the Hussain Sajwani – DAMAC Foundation.

The program, which selects 100 startups from a plethora of global university submissions, aims to transition research into practical implementations.

UAE Pilots for Three Global Ventures

In its inaugural cohort, the program is enhancing three ventures from Switzerland, the United States, and Egypt to foster UAE-based pilots and growth avenues:

Oxara (Switzerland) is pioneering sustainable construction by transforming mineral and construction waste into low-CO₂ building solutions. The company has successfully executed a pilot with a major UAE concrete firm and is gearing up for commercial-scale endeavors across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

P-Vita (Egypt) specializes in agricultural biotech by leveraging AI to develop natural fertilizers and materials for agriculture, food, and pharmaceuticals. With a base of over 4,800 smallholder farmers, the company is scaling trials and agricultural models within the UAE.

Virufy (United States/Japan-led research team) is crafting an AI-powered health screening tool that identifies respiratory diseases via cough sound analysis. Currently, the company is conducting a pilot clinical study with Dubai Health, enrolling nearly 200 patients.

Forward-Thinking Leadership

Khalfan Belhoul emphasized that the program establishes a structured channel to transition groundbreaking research from laboratories to practical applications, backed by Dubai’s cohesive innovation ecosystem.

Arif Amiri remarked that the initiative bolsters Dubai’s stature as a global nexus for innovation, melding capital, institutions, and talent.

Transiting Innovation from Research to Market

Leaders of the program assert that it provides financial aid, business insights, collaborative industry ties, and practical support, guiding academic entrepreneurs in transforming research into viable businesses. The aim is to minimize risks and speed up real-world implementation.

Tadeu Baldani Caravieri added that the program closes the divide between scientific advances and commercial achievements through dedicated support and partnerships.

Global Expansion and Emerging Ventures

The next installment of the program will showcase new ventures from prestigious global institutions, including Harvard University, Imperial College London, Petronas Technology University, and Duke University. Selected projects are in advanced discussions with UAE partners for potential deployment starting in 2026.

Applications Now Open

Entrepreneurs are invited to apply for the upcoming ‘Dubai Future Solutions – Prototypes for Humanity’ summit, encouraging students, graduates, and researchers globally to present their innovations for next year's showcase in Dubai and consider future venture opportunities.
