The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has unveiled 16 new public parks within the Al Shamkhah district of Abu Dhabi City, heralding a significant advancement in its mission to improve urban livability and foster more cohesive communities.
Crafted as inclusive spaces for recreation, these newly opened parks embody DMT’s dedication to offering modern, accessible, and well-equipped public areas that are suitable for residents of all ages. They feature vast landscaped gardens, eight designated fitness areas, 25 sports courts, and 26 children's playgrounds designed to cater to varying abilities. Additionally, walking paths, shaded seating, and communal gathering spots enhance opportunities for outdoor activity, relaxation, and social interaction.
Eng Khalifa Abdulla Alqemzi, Head of Capital Projects Execution – Abu Dhabi at DMT, expressed that the parks were meticulously designed to enrich residents' daily experiences. He emphasized that these new facilities strive to cultivate safe, inviting environments where families, neighbors, and friends can assemble. In line with the Year of Community, the parks aim to reinforce social bonds and promote active lifestyles, nurturing a profound sense of community within the locality.
The Al Shamkhah parks form part of a larger initiative to roll out community spaces across the capital this year. Recent developments have also been completed in the Al Falah district and Mohammed bin Zayed City, illustrating DMT’s broader strategy to establish well-integrated neighborhoods that advocate health, wellness, and social cohesion.
By enhancing access to high-quality public spaces, DMT continues to uphold Abu Dhabi’s vision of crafting urban environments that prioritize people, thereby improving quality of life and endorsing sustainable community living throughout the emirate.
