During the Dien Bien Province Investment Promotion Conference 2026, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Van Thang announced the district's commitment to becoming a key player in tourism, infrastructure, and sustainable economic growth. The event drew over 1,200 attendees, including diplomats, government representatives, industry leaders, and global investors from nations such as Thailand, France, China, Japan, South Korea, and Laos.
At the conference, the province approved and awarded certificates for numerous investment projects totaling over 48 trillion Vietnamese dong. Additionally, several Memorandums of Understanding were signed, with overall investment pledges surpassing 209 trillion Vietnamese dong. Local authorities referred to these initiatives as the foundation for Dien Bien's promising economic transformation.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Van Thang commended Dien Bien for its proactive approach in enhancing its investment landscape via reforms, including a dedicated “green channel” system designed to expedite project approvals by up to 90 percent. This initiative signals the government's dedication to fostering a transparent and inviting business atmosphere.
Leaders of the province underscored Dien Bien's historical significance, notably its connection to the Dien Bien Phu battlefield, as well as its strategic borders with China and Laos. They highlighted the region's tourism allure and vast potential for renewable energy, hot mineral springs, and high-tech agriculture as key strengths.
The conference emphasized major tourism and urban projects, including the announcement of a large 228-hectare urban and tourism development by Vingroup in Dien Bien Phu, which will feature residential areas, resorts, commercial districts, schools, healthcare amenities, and an 18-hole golf course, all harmonizing with the region's natural beauty. This project is set to host around 12,000 residents, significantly enhancing provincial tourism and economic dynamism.
Deputy Prime Minister Thang highlighted the imperative for sustainable economic advancement that respects the environment and cultural heritage. Local authorities and investors were urged to ensure that development efforts benefit the local populace. He called for swift transitions from planning to actual construction, delivering economic improvements that elevate living standards.
The Vietnamese central government reaffirmed its dedication to supporting Dien Bien's long-term strategies, focusing on critical infrastructure including expressways and cross-border connectivity. This strategic focus positions Dien Bien as a vital economic and tourism hub in northwestern Vietnam while advancing the nation's green growth and regional integration goals.
