New Delhi – The recent car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort has officially been recognized by the United States as a terrorist attack. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio commended India for its “professional, cautious, and measured” approach to the investigation. The blast has already resulted in at least nine fatalities and has raised national security alarms in the capital.
In a media briefing, Rubio highlighted the diligent management of the inquiry by Indian authorities. “The Indians need strong praise for their response. They are being very careful, measured, and competent in pursuing this investigation. It was evidently a terrorist act; a vehicle laden with explosives detonated, leading to significant loss of life,” he remarked.
Rubio noted that while the United States has offered its support, India is fully capable of independently handling the case. “We are ready to assist, but they are quite capable without us and are conducting a commendable investigation,” he expressed.
Blast Overview
The explosion took place outside the historic Red Fort in Delhi, marking the first significant terror-related security incident since the April shooting in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians. Authorities in India suspect links to a gang affiliated with the Pakistan-based group Jaish-e-Mohammed, with security forces reportedly uncovering close to 3,000 kg of explosives and multiple assault rifles during their investigation.
Home Minister Amit Shah assured that those responsible would face justice. “All individuals associated with this act will be held accountable, we will ensure that our agencies enact full justice,” he said after discussions in high-level security meetings.
Global Responses and Diplomatic Talks
Rubio engaged with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar during the G7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Canada, extending condolences for the tragic loss of life while discussing international security and bilateral relations. He pointed out that the incident could have wider implications but maintained confidence in India’s ability to investigate appropriately.
This week, India officially classified the event as a “terrorist incident”, asserting that anti-national forces orchestrated the attack. Authorities are actively pursuing the broader network related to this incident while strengthening security measures throughout the capital.
The Delhi blast highlights the ongoing threat from terror organizations in the region, while India’s composed response has garnered international applause, reaffirming its commitment to national security and effective law enforcement.
