As New Year’s Eve approaches, Delhi Police have launched an extensive security initiative across South and South East Delhi, leading to the arrest of more than 660 individuals during a nighttime crackdown aimed at deterring crime during the festive season.

The operation, known as Operation Aaghat 3.0, saw intensive searches conducted in at-risk neighborhoods over a 24-hour period. Law enforcement targeted repeat offenders, drug traffickers, bootleggers, gamblers, and other potential threats to ensure the safety and enjoyment of local celebrations.

According to police statements, the South East district alone was responsible for 285 arrests, while collaborative efforts across both South and South East Delhi districts led to over 850 detentions. More than 2,800 individuals were interrogated in this operation, hailed as a "very successful drive" by senior police officials.

During the raids, a substantial quantity of illegal items was confiscated, including 24 homemade firearms and 44 knives, highlighting the crackdown's focus on weapon-related offences. Additionally, police seized over 22,500 quarters of illicit alcohol, resulting in more than 60 arrests tied to these items.

Furthermore, authorities apprehended 10 individuals found with approximately 10 kilograms of cannabis, marking a significant move in anti-drug enforcement. The operation also disrupted illegal gambling activities, leading to the arrest of 68 gamblers and the recovery of Rs 2.3 lakh in cash.

Vehicle theft networks were another focal point. Police arrested five suspected auto thieves and confiscated 231 motorcycles along with a car, aiming to curb vehicle thefts during the festive rush.

The crackdown particularly targeted organized crime and habitual offenders, identifying around 155 repeat offenders and detaining them to disrupt ongoing criminal enterprises. Ten property offenders were arrested, showcasing the extensive nature of the operation.

Senior officials stated that this initiative sent a robust warning to criminals, underlining the commitment of law enforcement to ensure safety during the festivities.

The police filed 66 cases related to illegal weapon possession under the Arms Act, making equal arrests under the same law. Additionally, cases were initiated under the Excise Act for illegal liquor, the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act regarding drug offences, and the Gambling Act for illicit betting.

Over 350 arrests were made for public drinking, an act outlawed under local regulations, to keep public spaces safe and orderly.

In a notable achievement, approximately 350 stolen or lost mobile phones were recovered during the operation. Police are currently working to return these devices to their respective owners, providing much-needed relief to theft victims.

The police have assured the public that this operation will continue over the coming days to maintain safety and security during the New Year celebrations. Authorities have invited residents to collaborate with law enforcement and report any suspicious activities to sustain peace across the capital.

This extensive operation signifies the dedication of Delhi Police in fighting crime and fostering a safe environment for all citizens and visitors during this festive period.
