Scheduled for January 17 and 18, 2026, Abu Dhabi will host the Cyber Run & Ride, integrating running and cycling events that focus on promoting active lifestyles and enhancing awareness surrounding technology and cyber safety.
This exciting event is organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council in collaboration with the UAE Cybersecurity Council, furthering national efforts to foster community engagement and encourage healthy habits among families and youth.
Cyber Run & Ride is designed as a family-oriented event, featuring a vibrant village filled with interactive experiences, community engagement, and educational zones. The aim is to create a lively space where sport, knowledge, and safety meet, suitable for participants of all ages.
On January 17, various running distances will be available, including a half marathon, 10km, 5km, and 2.5km. Cycling will follow on January 18 in a non-competitive manner, promoting inclusive participation over rivalry.
Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, Head of Cybersecurity for the UAE Government, remarked that this initiative embodies the understanding that well-rounded individuals supported by vigilant families can effectively combat emerging digital threats.
He expressed concerns regarding criminal networks that exploit online spaces to manipulate the youth through misleading practices, calling for heightened community awareness and proactive family engagement to endorse safe digital habits.
Dr. Al Kuwaiti asserted that Cyber Run & Ride represents more than just sporting activities; it serves as a platform for spreading awareness about how adopting healthy lifestyles can shield individuals from cybercrime and online risks. Regular physical activity, he stated, sharpens focus and mental clarity, enabling better recognition of dangerous digital behaviours.
He also highlighted how families can enhance digital security by guiding youth, sparking open dialogue, and educating on cybersecurity best practices, fostering a generation committed to the responsible use of technology.
Concluding, Dr. Al Kuwaiti affirmed that events like Cyber Run & Ride underline the UAE’s vision for a wholesome, informed, and digitally secure society, encouraging community involvement in awareness initiatives.
In related comments, Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, mentioned that the event aligns with the council's mission to grow community sports participation in the emirate.
Al Awani noted that Cyber Run & Ride aims to inspire residents to lead active lives while providing an enriching sporting experience that merges entertainment and education, advancing the quality of life in Abu Dhabi.
He added that the partnership with the UAE Cybersecurity Council reflects the declaration of 2026 as the Year of the Family, underpinning national priorities focusing on family unity and societal well-being while enhancing awareness of families’ pivotal role.
